The price difference in the urban bus trip using a bus pass reaches 307% in those cities where this modality exists. It is one of the conclusions of the annual study carried out by FACUA-Consumers in Action, which shows that, in 2019, Madrid, Girona and Barcelona are the cities with the most expensive bus fares in this of the 53 analyzed fares .

The study covers the entirety of the 50 provincial capitals -except Pontevedra, which does not have an urban bus system as such- plus Ceuta, Melilla, Santiago de Compostela and Gijón.

On average, traveling by bus using a bonobús or rechargeable card with a transfer (the one offered by almost all the cities analyzed, specifically 39) costs 0.75 euros, a slight decrease of 0.7% compared to last year. It should be noted that, when comparing the average prices of the different rates in 2018 and 2019, the 17 cities that have included new ones this year and those that have been able to implement some rate for the first time have not been taken into account. time in 2019 to avoid distorting the results.

The most expensive route with this card is Madrid (1.83 euros, although it is true that this voucher also allows you to use other urban transport in the city), followed by Girona (1.07 euros), Barcelona (1 , 02 euros) -repeat as the most expensive cities-, Lleida (0.98 euros) and Alicante (0.87 euros). At the other extreme, the cheapest trips are found in Lugo (0.45 euros), Logroño (0.53 euros), Ávila (0.55 euros), Salamanca (0.59 euros) and Santiago de Compostela, Segovia and Vitoria (all three with a price of 0.60 euros). A user can save, on average, up to 37.4% if they use a transfer bus instead of the single or one-way ticket.

As for the routes with vonobus without transshipment (which 25 of the 53 cities have), Madrid continues to be the most expensive city (1.22 euros). They are followed by Palma de Mallorca (1.00 euros), San Sebastián (0.95 euros), Oviedo (0.90 euros) and Huesca (0.85 euros). The cheapest are Cáceres (0.30 euros), Palencia (0.40 euros), Lugo (0.45 euros), Burgos (0.47 euros) and Logroño (0.53 euros). On average, the trip costs 0.70 euros -a drop of 1.1% – and a user who uses this fare modality can save up to 40.4% compared to the single ticket.

In general, the vast majority of cities have maintained the same prices as in 2018 in all the rates that have been analyzed (univiaje ticket, voucher with or without transshipment, monthly card and night ticket) with some punctual rise or fall of prices in some of them. Yes, A Coruña stands out, which has lowered all its rates by between 7 and 12%.

One-way ticket

The univiaje ticket, or also known as a single ticket, costs on average 1.20 euros in 2019. Compared to last year, comparing only the cities analyzed in both studies, it has risen just 0.1%.

Barcelona repeats as the most expensive city for this rate, 2.20 euros. They are followed by San Sebastián (1.75 euros), Madrid, Palma de Mallorca, Tarragona, Valencia and Valladolid, all five with 1.50 euros. Among the cheapest are Lugo (0.64 euros), Palencia (0.72 euros), Logroño (0.72 euros), Melilla (0.85 euros) and Ceuta and Ourense (both 0.85 euros). The difference reaches 244%.

In 2019, the vast majority of cities have maintained the same rates that they already had in 2018. Only two cities, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Bilbao, have increased the prices of this modality, 8% and 3.8% respectively. On the contrary, A Coruña has reduced the amount of this ticket by 7.7%.

FACUA understands that, since the single ticket is a travel modality that is normally used by non-habitual users, it is reasonable that its price has a dissuasive character, in order to help defray the entire system.

Monthly card

The card that is offered for a period of one month, in many cases unlimited, is present in 34 of the surveyed cities. Its value ranges between 15 euros in Albacete and 54.60 euros in Madrid, the same price as last year. The average rate is 34.74 euros, 0.4% less than in 2018.

Madrid is followed, as more expensive cities, by Barcelona (54 euros), Girona (46.15) and Las Palmas and Oviedo (both with 42 euros). The cheapest ones after Albacete are Ciudad Real (20 euros), Soria (21.50 euros), Ávila (22 euros) and Salamanca (22.05 euros).

Night ticket

The highest fare in the night section corresponds to San Sebastián (2.10 euros), followed by Vitoria (1.85 euros), Lleida (1.75 euros) and Burgos, Granada, Madrid, Palma de Mallorca and Valencia (1 ,50 euros). While, at the other extreme, the five cheapest cities at night and early in the morning are Bilbao (0.66 euros, 1.5% more than in 2018), Palencia (0.70 euros), Ceuta (0.85 euros ), Soria (0.90 euros) and Segovia (1 euro).

On average, taking the bus in this section costs 1.24 euros, 0.3% less if we compare, once again, those cities that were both in the 2018 study and in this year. The difference reaches 218%.
