The Albacete City Council and Valoriza Medioambiente have presented this morning the ‘brown container’, a fifth cube for the organic matter or biowaste. Is Pilot experience, contemplated by the law on the selective collection of containers in municipalities with more than 5,000 inhabitants, has been started in four neighborhoods: Hermanos Falcó, Hospital, Medicine and University.
It is expected to extend the implementation of the brown containers to the rest of the city to early next year, after analyzing how and how much they have been used in these first districts.
The Councilor for Sustainability, Julian Ramon, has stressed that it is a “pioneer” initiative in Castilla-La Mancha, and the head of the Environmental Health service, Juan Carlos Sánchez Tébar, has insisted on the duty to use this new resource for recycling, in addition to explaining in Radio Albacete what exactly is thrown into the new garbage can: “mainly food scraps, also napkins or eggshells”. You can listen to it here:
How to get the card?
The smart card that allows opening the new containers will also be used to carry out this study on their use. Resident neighbors in the pilot project neighborhoods can pick up this card at the Valoriza office, located at Calle Beltrán Mateos, 14 (in front of the Asilo de San Antón).
The hours of this venue are from 12.30 to 18.30. Interested users will receive with the card a 10-liter brown garbage can and a roll of biodegradable bags so that they can separate organic matter in their homes.
