Albacete Airport, accredited as a ‘safe airport’

TOyota—–

Albacete Airport has received certification from the Airport Health Accreditation program managed by the Airports Council International (ACI), a program that assesses compliance with the sanitary measures recommended by ACI, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines. All of them are aligned, in turn, with the objectives of the Operational Recovery Plan that Aena launched in April 2020 and that has been implemented in all the airports in the network.

The achievement of the Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) demonstrates Aena’s continuous commitment to the measures adopted for the safety of employees and passengers as a result of the pandemic, with the aim of regaining the confidence of travelers in air transport.

The achievement of the Airport Health Accreditation (AHA) demonstrates Aena’s continuous commitment to the measures adopted for the safety of employees and passengers as a result of the pandemic, with the aim of regaining the confidence of travelers in air transport.

Along with Albacete Airport, the airports of Badajoz, Burgos, Córdoba, Huesca-Pirineos, León, Logroño, Madrid-Cuatro Vientos, Melilla, Pamplona, Sabadell, Salamanca, San Sebastián, Son Bonet, Valladolid and Vitoria have also obtained accreditation. that are added to the 30 who had already obtained it, the total of the 46 of the network in Spain. In this way, Aena becomes the airport group in the world with the most “safe airports” accredited according to the guidelines of the international aeronautical authorities and the guidelines of the World Health Organization.

As published by the ECDC in its ‘Guidelines for covid-19 testing and quarantine of air travelers’, air transport has been shown to be an environment with a low prevalence of the virus, accounting for less than 1% of the detected cases of covid-19 and no increase in the transmission ratio.

Screens, cleaning and disinfection, signage, ventilation, hydroalcoholic gel, new operating procedures and ‘contactless’ elements

The protocols and measures are applied at all airports in the Aena network. Among these measures, ACI has certified the reinforcement of cleaning and disinfection in the facilities, the control of the maximum allowed capacity and the adaptation of the different operating processes to the new reality.

Likewise, ACI has assessed the installation of protective screens at the airport at different points: check-in counters, boarding gates, security filters, etc); of informative signage, posters with messages on the use of a mask, personal distance, hand hygiene, etc., as well as marks and traces of social distancing or cancellation of seats. Aena has produced 84 new messages, which include all these variations in different languages, and more than 400 adaptations have been created for the different spaces of the airport.

Albacete Airport also has automatic hydroalcoholic gel dispensers and has deployed other ‘contactless’ elements such as taps in the toilets and bins with lids for gloves and masks. In addition, hand dryers with HEPA filters have been installed.

The director of the airport, Pedro Cotilla, has indicated that “this certification is a recognition of the work carried out in collaboration with the health and aeronautical authorities to guarantee that the airport is safe.”

On all these measures, Aena has worked and continues to work constantly in all its airports to recover traffic safely. Its Operational Recovery Plan includes more than 100 measures, among those directed directly to passengers, operational and organizational.

AHA is the first global program conceived specifically for the airport sector since the Covid-19 crisis. The accreditation has been granted after a careful evaluation of the sanitary measures and procedures that Aena and the Spanish authorities have introduced in all passenger areas and processes.

Passengers can consult the updated information on the measures implemented at the airports on the Aena website, the recommendations for their trip (before heading to the airport, once at the facility, on the plane and at the destination airport) and the restrictions in force in the different territories.
