“Alarming Speeds: 14,000 Cars Measured and Children at Risk in Dresden’s Roads”

The speed of 14,000 cars in Dresden was measured. The result is alarming – children are particularly at risk in road traffic.

For two weeks, the police measured the speed of cars in front of elementary schools – and found violations in eight percent of the cases. 147 drivers were so fast that fines were initiated, the Ministry of the Interior announced on Tuesday on the balance of the “Blitz for Kids” campaign. The speed was measured for almost 14,000 vehicles.

According to Interior Minister Armin Schuster (CDU), campaigns such as “Blitz für Kids” have drastically reduced the number of accidents in recent years. Children are considered to be particularly at risk in road traffic. According to the ministry, 1,277 children died in accidents in 2022. Two of them died in the accidents.
