At the beginning of 2024, Suceava county is facing an alarming increase in measles cases. The authorities reported 8 cases in different localities in the county. Of the total number of illnesses, 6 affected unvaccinated children between the ages of 8 months and 11 years, and in one case, a 3-year-old child was affected, although he was only vaccinated with the first dose of measles vaccine.
According to the Suceava Public Health Directorate, one case is in Marginea Commune, two cases were registered in Dolhești Commune, one case each in Voitinel and Iacobeni, and three cases were reported in Rădăuți municipality.
The Suceava County Public Health Directorate announces that it has implemented an action plan since December 2023, focusing on constant communication with doctors, school staff and the medical community, case surveillance and contact identification, data reporting according to health legislation, preventive measures in affected areas.
The director of DSP Suceava, Daniela Odeh, emphasizes that vaccination is the most effective method of prevention. The MMR vaccine, Measles-Oreon-Rubella, is indicated for people from the age of 12 months and is available through the National Vaccination Program, being free.
Parents are advised to request vaccination according to the national schedule to protect their children’s health.
