Berlin ∙ Interior Minister Nancy Feiser presented a report revealing the statistics of domestic violence in Germany. The report shows that the number of victims of domestic violence will increase by 8.5 percent in 2022.
It is said that every third man in the country condones violence against women. 71.1 percent of the victims are women. The biggest increase was in partner violence. The number of such cases has increased by 9.4 percent.
More than 14 women are victims of intimate partner violence every hour. It is reported that almost every day a partner or ex-partner tries to kill at least one woman. The report assesses that violence against women is a problem that affects society as a whole. The number of victims of domestic violence in 2022 is 240,547. 157,818 experienced violence from a partner. 197,348 have suspicious partners. The vast majority (76.3 percent) are male.
In most cases, violence between partners appears in the form of intentional simple physical harm (59.3 percent). 11.7 percent of the cases involve serious bodily harm. 24.2 percent of the cases under domestic violence are threats and force. 2.5 percent is rape and sexual assault.
31.1 percent were victims of partner violence. More than half (50.5 percent) of murder and manslaughter victims were married to the perpetrator.
Children are the main victims of domestic violence, at 35.5 percent. 23.2 percent were parents and 16.9 percent were siblings.
