Employers can apply for new support from the UWV from Monday, but will be reimbursed for less costs than with the previous support packages. Due to the tightened corona measures, which hit sectors such as the hospitality industry hard, the government agency is taking into account thousands of requests per day.
“When this package was devised, it was not surprising that support could be phased out,” says FNV director Zakaria Boufangacha. “But the second wave is now affecting more companies. If the cabinet does not expand support after all, what we have always managed to prevent will happen. ”
Zero point
Employers also believe that wider support is needed. “The second wave has again hit many hard-hit sectors and the reserves of many companies have fallen to zero,” said a spokesman for VNO-NCW. “We have to prevent that fundamentally healthy companies from falling over as a result of all government measures.”
Minister Koolmees (Social Affairs) previously indicated that an assessment must be made in December as to whether the austerity measures are still ‘justified’. Trade unions and employers seem to have resigned themselves to less support from October, but have ‘full confidence’ that the knife will not go any further.
