According to initial information, there was a major operation by the Federal Police at the “Helmut-Schmidt-Airport” in Fuhlsbüttel on Wednesday afternoon.
“Due to police investigations, the central control point was cleared,” said a spokeswoman.
The security area has been closed. In addition, some buildings had to be cleared. No more departures could take place. Only landings were still possible at that time. The background to the police operation was initially unknown.

The police asked travelers via Twitter to pay attention to the terminal announcements. There will be more information soon.
At 1.50 p.m. the first all-clear was given via the short message service: the police measures had now been ended, departures could take place again.

On peak days, Hamburg Airport is currently expecting up to 45,000 passengers per day, which is around 70 percent of the pre-crisis level.
