The Deceuninck-QuickStep team announced the death of Julian Alaphilippe’s father on Sunday. Jo Alaphilippe had been sick for several years and was traveling in a wheelchair. He had found the strength to go on the roads of the Tour de France last year to follow the exploits of his son, in yellow for 14 days before finishing in 5th place in the general classification.

Jo, Jacques by his real name, Alaphilippe was a musician and had tried to make his son embrace the same career. He officiated as host of bal-musettes in Berry, which had earned him the first part of a concert by Johnny Hallyday.
Failing to follow the path of his father, Julian Alaphilippe took the musical fiber by developing a certain talent for the drums. Jo Alaphilippe was also the father of Bryan, also a cyclist, and Franck’s uncle, Julian’s trainer.
