Alana King played for two very different reasons in Australia’s victory in South Africa, helping to secure a 2-1 ODI series win on Saturday.
The 28-year-old produced a superb display of bowling after a lengthy rain delay to bring the Australians home at North Sydney Oval by 110 runs.
But it was towards the end of Australia’s innings that King had another highlight – and a comical one at that.

The all-rounder attempted to take a full toss from Masabata Klaas and accidentally hit his own stumps, with the bails immediately dislodged and the talented leg-spinner lying on the turf, completely dismayed.

But after the square leg umpire ruled the throw a no-ball, King was awarded a six and the South African seamer was forced to bowl it again, to which the Australian star sent him a once again over the rope in a cruel twist of fate. .
“Alana King has gone deep into the crease, looking to get that long delivery that she can elevate to mid-wicket,” commentator Mel Jones said on Fox Cricket.
“Instead, she goes all out from the waist down and tries to fight back and find the limit. She pivots and cleans her stumps.”
His teammates on the sidelines looked stunned after the comical turn of events, with the other Fox Cricket commentator highlighting the reaction.
“You see the confusion on everyone’s faces as to what happened there,” she said.

King was eventually dismissed by Klaas for a quickfire 17 off 12 balls.
Australia posted 9/277 from their 50 overs, with experienced batters Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney leading the way.
The skipper sent things flying at North Sydney Oval, scoring 60 from 73 balls after partner Phoebe Litchfield (5) fell in the sixth over.
Mooney kept the ball in the middle overs and remained unbeaten, finishing with 82 from 91 balls, while right-hander Tahlia McGrath (44 from 35) provided plenty of early support at the crease.

South Africa’s chase got off to a poor start, losing 4-63 in 14 overs before rain forced the players off the field.
After the delay, Australia returned home to conclude the series, with King finishing with 4-21 from four overs, including a nerve-wracking near miss for a hat-trick.
Tahlia McGrath (3-23) also had a good night with the ball, while Kim Garth (3-14) tore through South Africa’s top spot before the weather turned bad.
Both teams will now turn their attention to a single Test match, which begins on February 15 at the WACA in Perth.
