What should have been the star of Norwegian DJ Alan Walker suddenly appeared in the live stream: – I was completely shaking, he was completely crazy!
On Saturday morning, a donation from someone nicknamed “Alan W” appeared on the live stream for the annual “Gamers Against Childhood Cancer” fundraiser.
The donation amounted to NOK 85,330.
The project manager for ‘Players Against Childhood Cancer’, Johanne Lindvig (34), was streaming herself on Twitch when the sizable donation came in.
– I was completely shocked, she was completely crazy, she tells VG.
Alan Walker is a Norwegian-British DJ, artist and producer. Among other things, he is responsible for the huge hit “Faded”, which has over 1.6 billion streams. In 2021 he earned NOK 68.06 million, according to E24.
Alan Walker has donated to a similar charity in the past, but Lindvig says they still weren’t sure if it was actually the famous artist donating.
– Suddenly we see that a donation of NOK 60,000 arrives! He says it’s Alan Walker, but is that possible?
The collection by this point had brought in just under a million.
– As we approached the million mark, another donation appeared! Now at NOK 25,330! Then we just passed one million crowns.
– Yup! Sending warm greetings from Vancouver, Canada, writes someone with the username “AlanWalkerMusic” in the chat channel on Twitch.
VG has tried to get confirmation from Alan Walker that he was the one who donated the money, but has so far been unable to get in touch with him.
– Great commitment
“Players Against Childhood Cancer” started in 2019 and is led by Komplett.no in partnership with the Children’s Cancer Association. Over the past two years, they have raised over NOK 4.5 million.
Streaming takes place on the video streaming platform Contractionand integration into the public funding service junction.
Irene Rivelsrud, a partnership and fundraising consultant at the Children’s Cancer Association, says this is the largest charity flow in Norway.
– The gaming community shows so much commitment and has a big heart for the cause, says Rivelsrud.
Every other day a child falls ill with cancer in Norway. The disease is the most common cause of death for children aged 1 to 14, Rivelsrud says.
– Use traffic
The fact that komplett.no uses the period around “Black Friday” is no coincidence.
– The idea came from the fact that we wanted to use all the traffic we get on Black Friday to give something back. The choice fell on the Children’s Cancer Association and we see genuine engagement among players across the country, says Komplett.no’s Lindvig.
Lindvig tells VG that this year’s stream participants are Level up, Jonas Lihaug, EllieK, Nerdelandslaget, Aslak Maurstad and msvosch.
