Yesterday we finally learned about the HW requirements for the survival horror Alan Wake 2, which surprised many players because they are quite high. The chart only mentioned graphics cards of the GeForce RTX 20 or Radeon RX 6000 series and higher, now we learn that this is not entirely a coincidence. One of the developers at Twitter she revealedthat the list of supported graphics cards will be relatively limited.
A user with the nickname newincpp specifically claims that the game uses mesh shaders, which is a feature of the DirectX 12 Ultimate API. This is only supported on RTX 20/RX 6000 series cards and higher. Although the developer adds that they implemented another technique for older graphics, the so-called vertex shaders, with which, however, there were big problems in terms of performance and bugs, so this method will not be officially supported in the end. So if you own an older graphics card and plan to play the title, you will have to take into account that the game may not run perfectly, if at all.
Alan Wake 2 releases on October 27th for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
I’m not sure it will run without it. In theory the vertex shader path is implemented but had lots of perfs issues and bugs, we just dropped it.
Meaning it might be possible to bring it back with a mod but don’t expect miracles.— Leah – Newin (@newincpp) October 21, 2023
