Alan Shearer believes that the “obsession” with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has kept the public from seeing the quality of Salah.
Mohamed Salah has enjoyed incredible form this season, contributing to Liverpool’s success on the national and European stages. The Egyptian star has already scored 20 goals in 21 appearances, breaking several records.
Salah scored for Liverpool in their 2-1 Champions League win over Milan on Wednesday. By bringing his total of goals to 20, Salah tied a 34-year record held by Ian Rush. Before the Egyptian star, only Rush had managed to score more than 20 goals in five consecutive seasons for Liverpool.

Last month, Salah finished in seventh place in the 2021 Ballon d’Or table, which drew criticism from Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.
Newcastle and England legend Alan Shearer also believes Salah’s ranking is unfair.
In an interview with The Athletic, the top scorer in Premier League history said: “Mohamed Salah is the best in the world right now. The top scorer and the best player, period.
“The little magician does his job in the best championship in the world and he does it against the best teams and in the biggest matches. Week after week, year after year, Salah does magic.
“How he came seventh in the last Ballon d’Or vote, nobody knows. Both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are obsessed with each other, which is understandable given the dominance they have wielded during the modern era, but if you were to give me the choice of a player for my squad, it would be Salah. “
Salah leads the Premier League scorers’ table, while the Reds sit second in the table. Liverpool face Aston Villa in their next league game on Saturday, as club legend Steven Gerrard returns to Anfield.
