Alan Roura left New York to try to …

Alan Roura set off to storm the North Atlantic. The Geneva sailor set off from New York on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. to try to beat the record for the monohull crossing which is 8 days, 5 hours, 20 minutes and 20 seconds.

Roura, aboard his Imoca class boat, has crossed the virtual start line of the Ambrose lighthouse and will seek to cross the one, 2800 nautical miles (5333 kilometers) further east, symbolized by Lizard Point, in les Cournouailles (GBR).

French Marc Guillemot has held the record since 2013.
