A judicial imbroglio has just been decided around Mohamed Kemal, 33 years old, sentenced at the end of the year to 25 years of penal imprisonment, for having attempted to slaughter the director Alain Françon on the streets of Montpellier. On Friday 6 January, the First President of the Montpellier Court of Appeal declared his appeal inadmissible. He will therefore not have a new trial.
On December 7, 2022, the Court of Assizes had therefore ruled for this attack with a cutter of rare ultraviolence. On the morning of March 17, 2021, in the alleys of old Montpellier, this uprooted Algerian had dealt a violent blow with a cutter to the neck of the internationally renowned theater man, but whom he did not know. .
The seventy-year-old was drained of his blood and was saved only thanks to the intervention of passers-by who gave him first aid.
“I sent a letter to appeal”
The trial revealed that the defendant, for some time placed on trial for anti-French provocations that could have led to think of a terrorist attack, had not claimed to have been removed from the prefecture where he wanted to renew his residence permit. And that he vented wildly on the first person crossed.
For this attempted murder, the Attorney General requested 30 years. But the 25-year prison term didn’t please Mohamed Kemal who insulted the president. He then had ten days to appeal, but his request was presented two days late.
“He says he would have filed a previous application, but the registry office says he hasn’t found any trace of it,” reported the instruction chamber, which examined his only request for reinstatement on Tuesday, January 3.
