Alicante by bike report the existence of a point highly dangerous for cycling users at the intersection between the avenue of Villajoyosa, the street Jovellanos and the Denia avenue, popularly known as “the scalextric”. A crossroads where vehicles are driving faster than the allowed speed since, they criticize, it seems an urban highway with up to five lanes, without the City Council doing anything to solve it.
The association’s spokesperson, Pedro Raigal, recalls that, to access the beaches from Alicante or from the beaches to the center, this is the only option for cyclists, unless they surrounded the city completely through other ring roads such as the Vía Parque or the Gran Vía, something not operational, or that they committed an illegality circulating along the Paseo del Postiguet.
Therefore, Raigal requests any provisional action in Villajoyosa avenue while the greenway is being built which will run along the old TRAM route on the coast, now in disuse since the works on the Serra Grossa tunnel were completed, allowing trams to circulate in two directions.
