David Alaba plans to change positions when he leaves Bayern Munich in the summer, according to a report.
Alaba has confirmed that he will not extend his contract with Bayern, which means that these are the last months of your long period with them.
The Austria international has enjoyed a trophy-filled career with the Bundesliga giants. Now, at 28, he is looking for a new challenge.
The chance to sign someone of Alaba’s quality for free is an attractive opportunity for several of the biggest clubs in Europe. For example, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are eager to sign him.
But there is also the possibility of Alaba ending up in the Premier League. He is admired by Chelsea and Liverpool in particular.
Both clubs are looking to strengthen their defenses. Chelsea brought in Thiago Silva in the summer, but he needs a consistent partner for him who can later become his successor.
As for Liverpool, injuries to key players led to them signing Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies in January. However, Alaba would offer an important step forward in the class.
But if any of the Premier League clubs want to sign Alaba, they will be intrigued by his personal plans.
According to Le Parisien, Alaba wants to play as a midfielder for his next club, not as a defender.
The Vienna-born star has excelled primarily in defense throughout his career. He is capable of playing as a left or center back.
But he has also served as a defensive midfielder on occasion, and ensures that this is the role he wants to reach.
It is unclear how that may affect the interest of Chelsea and Liverpool. They both seem reasonably well stocked in that department today.
Praise in contact with Rudiger
Chelsea’s potential plans to sign Alaba were boosted recently when the current defender Antonio Rudiger admitted that he had been in contact with the Austrian.
That contact wasn’t necessarily about a transfer to Stamford Bridge. However, if the talks got more serious, the German could help.
“If Chelsea decided on one of the three players as a transfer target, I would be available to answer any questions,” Rudiger told Bild about ties to Alaba, Jerome Boateng and Niklas Sule.
“I know Jerome and Niklas very well and have already had contact with David Alaba.”
