Atlanta, USA (CNN) – The mother of Egyptian-British activist detained in Egypt, Alaa Abdel-Fattah, said she doesn’t know if her son is still alive.
“There is no tangible evidence that Alaa is still alive and conscious,” Laila Souif said in a video she posted on Monday evening after a visit to the prison where Alaa is being held.
The Egyptian activist’s mother added that she had waited outside the prison since morning, but had not received any messages on Alaa Abdel Fattah’s situation, noting that she would return to prison on Tuesday in hopes of hearing about her son’s fate.
The British Prime Minister, Richie Sunak, said he raised the issue of Abdel Fattah with the Egyptian president, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, on the sidelines of the “Climate Summit” (Cop27).
Interestingly, Alaa announced on Sunday that he went on a water strike, 200 days after his hunger strike.
