The Mediterranean Fencing Federation held its ordinary meeting on the sidelines of the Mediterranean Open Championship for the under 23 category, which took place in the Italian city of Carrara. The federation, which is chaired by the honorary president of the Lebanese Fencing Federation, Ziad Choueiri, includes Vincenzo Dibertomeo (Vice President – Italy), the former Algerian Minister of Sport Raouf Bernaoui (Vice President), the French Alain Garnier (Secretary), the Spaniard Antonio Garcia (Treasurer) The Turkish Bilgin, the Croatian Martina Zmaik, the Egyptian Ayman Mounir, the Tunisian Yousri Bawab, the Greek Hippocrates Manoudax. The meeting was attended by the President of the Italian Fencing Federation, Paolo Azzi. At the beginning of the meeting, Al-Shuwairy thanked Italy for hosting this tournament in its second edition, and congratulated the Italian Fencing Federation for the excellent organizational level, and it was decided to organize the third edition next year in Brindisi – Italy. The Executive Office has studied the federation’s championship calendar and the possibility of adapting it to the calendar of the international federation. The meeting focused on prioritizing the under-23 tournament and turning it into an international open tournament, and it was decided to set its final date in the first week of next October before the start of the World Cup tournaments. The Executive Office reconsidered its plan to develop fencing in some Mediterranean countries that need technical support and to keep pace with the high international experience possessed by a number of Mediterranean fencing federations. The Italian Federation has also kindly agreed to host an improvement and preparation course at the training center of the Italian Olympic Committee in Formia, under the supervision of the coaches of the Italian fencing team. Al-Shuwairy briefed participants on the climate of his meeting with the President of the European Fencing Federation, Giorgio Scarso, where steps were agreed to consolidate cooperation and coordination between the two federations, which will help develop the role of the Mediterranean Federation and the level of its official leagues.
