The director of Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza, Muhammad Abu Salamiya, said on Monday that a real disaster was befalling the hospital, as our last oxygen station stopped working at three in the morning.
Abu Salima added in an interview with “Sky News Arabia”:
Fuel is completely out, patients are being put to the test and every minute you will hear the number of deaths increasing, including premature babies. We cannot do anything for any injured person because the hospital is now without electricity, water and oxygen. Al-Shifa Hospital today, in this situation, is a cemetery for everyone. 650 sick and wounded, 50 patients on dialysis, 36 premature babies. Anyone leaving the hospital is bombed, and yesterday some of the displaced tried to leave. They were bombed and 10 were injured. The bodies are in front of us and we cannot bring them to the hospital.
On Monday, Hamas Undersecretary of Health in the Gaza Strip, Youssef Abu Al-Rish, announced the death of 6 premature infants and 9 in the intensive care unit due to a power outage to Al-Shifa Hospital, the largest hospital institution in the Gaza Strip, which is subject to a continuous Israeli siege and bombing.
Gaza… bloodshed and destruction
What happens to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza?
Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City is in an extremely difficult situation. Above the Israeli siege imposed on it, it is subjected to repeated bombardment, and inside, patients are dying as a result of running out of fuel and medicine. The hospital’s last generator ran out of fuel on Saturday, leading to the death of three premature babies and four other patients, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. Israel says that Hamas militants have set up command centers under and around these hospitals and that it wants to reach them to free about 200 hostages held by the movement since their surprise attack on Israel more than a month ago, while Hamas denies using the hospitals in this way. The Israeli army reported that clashes took place in the vicinity of the hospital, but added, “There is no shooting in the hospital and there is no siege.”
