This is the first confirmation that ICC investigators are talking to medics about possible war crimes in the Gaza Strip.
The source, who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the case, told Reuters that ICC investigators had received evidence from staff who worked at the main hospital in The city of Gaza in the northern part of the sea, Al Shifa, and the main hospital in Khan Yunis in the southern part of Gaza, Nasser.
The source declined to provide further details, citing concerns about witness safety.
One of the sources said that the events around the hospital could be part of the ICC investigation, which hears criminal cases against individuals for war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide and aggression.
The ICC Prosecutor’s Office declined to comment on operational issues in the ongoing investigation, citing the need to ensure the safety of victims and witnesses.
The ICC said it was investigating all aspects of the conflict, including the October 7 attack by Hamas fighters on Israel and subsequent Israeli attacks on Gaza.
During the conflict, the two main hospitals in Gaza have been the main targets of Israel, with Israeli forces under siege and under storm that accuse Hamas of using the hospitals for military purposes. However, Hamas and its medical staff denied the Israeli accusations.
In recent days, Palestinian officials have also called for an investigation after hundreds of bodies were exhumed in a mass grave in Nasser.
