Al-Riyadh newspaper | The Gulf Health Council launches the campaign “Your Imagination Distorts Your Beauty”

The Gulf Health Council announced the launch of an awareness campaign entitled “Your Imagination Distorts Your Beauty” with the aim of raising awareness about the phenomenon of body image disorder and its impact on both males and females.

This psychological disorder is one of the phenomena that young people face at the present time, as it is known as a psychological disorder that causes the individual to have a mental image of his appearance, and the affected individual cannot stop constantly thinking about one or more of the defects in his appearance, as they may be very minor. Or so that others do not see it, and there are several reasons for the injury and they may differ from one person to another, including: genetic and psychological, such as: the presence of a family history of illness or the presence of a chemical imbalance in the brain, and personality traits such as: low self-esteem and setting impossible standards for perfect appearance, as well as other reasons such as Exposure to trauma or exposure to bullying, harassment, or social pressures and standards. The campaign targets adolescents and young people, males and females (age 13 to 25 years), as a main category, and parents and teachers as a secondary category.

The campaign includes many important products, including a main video that reviews the problems of dysmorphic body image disorder and provides advice on how to deal with this phenomenon and an awareness guide. A social experiment was also conducted to raise awareness of this phenomenon and its impact on the individual and a measurement tool to measure the individual’s level of psychological satisfaction with his external appearance.

This campaign comes in the context of the Gulf Health Council’s commitment to promoting mental health and awareness among members of society, with a focus on prevention and early treatment to ensure a healthy psychological life for future generations.
