Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
The game Call of Duty: Vanguard has drawn criticism from some Muslim players after a YouTuber noticed pages of the Koran strewn on the floor at a location for the game’s Zombie campaign.
The existence of a leaflet from the holy book of Islam is considered a dishonorable act. And in any way considered an insult.
In Zombies Vanguard mode, during the part where players pass through Stalingrad, pages of the Koran are scattered on the floor and in some cases, the sheets are covered in blood, as quoted from PCGamer.
A Twitter user with the account name @BKTO0R shared some pictures of the game display where there were sheets of the Koran.
“Brothers and sisters, I saw the pages of the Koran on the ground on the zombie map. I saw that it should be removed as soon as possible if it is true,” he wrote in Arabic.
People then criticized the owners of Call of Duty, Activision-Blizzard, and game developers. In a statement released Dexter, Activision apologized and noted that the offending content had been removed from the game.
“Call of Duty is made for everyone. There was insensitive content towards the Muslim community that was incorrectly entered last week, and has since been removed from the game. This should never have appeared in the game. We sincerely apologize. We are taking steps immediately internally to address the situation to prevent such incidents in the future,” the statement read.
Reported from Kotaku, many are relieved to see the pages of the Quran have been removed. Additionally, some developers feel that apologies should be sent via other Call of Duty social media accounts.
By limiting the apology to only BKTOOR Arab accounts, the message did not spread widely, which could be seen as an attempt to avoid admitting wrongdoing in other markets.
