NEW YORK (Xinhua) — American actress Danielle Didwiller has accused Hollywood of systemic racism and “misogyny” after ignoring any black women’s nomination for the Best Actress Oscar this year, CNN reported.
Danielle Didwyler has been nominated for a BAFTA, Critics’ Choice Movie Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and many other industry awards for her powerful and moving performance as Mamie Tell-Mobley in ‘Tell’, excluding an Academy Award.
“Deidwiller attributes this disdain to systemic racism and ‘misogyny’, a term coined by black feminist scholar Moya Bailey to denote a distinct form of hatred experienced by black women as a result of the intersection of their race and gender,” the report said.
“We’re talking about people who may have chosen not to see the movie, we’re talking about misogyny… This is something that comes in all forms. Whether it’s direct or indirect, it is It affects our identity.”
And Dodwiller wasn’t the only black woman whose Best Actress Oscar nomination was snubbed. The report said that Viola Davis, who starred in “The Woman King” and was also considered the most likely to win an Academy Award, was also not nominated.
“The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has long faced a diversity problem, and despite having a record number of nominations for Asian actors and filmmakers this year, the organization has once again come under fire for who it chose to honor and who it did not,” the report added.
