Al Pacino, 83, was supposed to present the award for best film – but failed to present the nominees.

Now the Hollywood legend comments on the confused awards ceremony.

– It was not my intention to leave them out, he says.

Al Pacinos performance at Sunday’s Oscars became one of the event’s most noted.

The actor was on hand to present the award for best film but skipped, as usual, to introduce the ten nominees first. Instead, he immediately revealed that this year’s winner was the blockbuster “Oppenheimer”.

“Not my intention”

In a public statement released Monday, Pacino says that it was the television producers behind the gala who urged him not to list the nominated films, writes the BBC.

– There seems to be some controversy about me not mentioning each film by name before revealing who won Best Picture. I just want to clarify that it was not my intention to leave them out, rather it was the producers’ choice not to mention them again as they were highlighted individually during the course of the ceremony. I was honored to be a part of the evening and chose to follow their wishes on how the award should be presented, he says via his press contact.

Kimmel questioned

After the gala, the presenter questioned Jimmy Kimmel The “Godfather” star’s performance in an interview with ABC.

– I guess he’s never seen an awards ceremony before? he said then.
