Bintang Al Nasser Sultan Al Ghannam criticized the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for not using a video assistant referee (VAR) in the Asian Champions League playoff match.

Sultan Al Ghannam’s harsh criticism came after Al Nassr qualified for the Asian Champions League after defeating Shabab Al Ahli 4-2 at Shabab at Al Awal Park Stadium, Wednesday (23/8) early morning WIB.

Sultan Al Ghannam thinks Al Nassr deserved three penalties against Shabab. However, incidents or violations committed by Shabab players in the forbidden box were ignored by referee Fu Ming from China.

“It’s strange for the AFC because there is no VAR technology. I think there were three penalty kicks in our favor that didn’t count,” Al Ghannam was quoted as saying. Arriyadiyah.

Previously, it was widely reported that Cristiano Ronaldo protested loudly at the referee Fu Ming because he did not get three penalties. The three penalties were claimed for one handball incident and two offences.

Al Ghannam himself was the scorer of Al Nassr’s second goal in the 88th minute. Before Al Ghannam’s goal, Al Nassr trailed 1-2 thanks to two goals from Yahya Al Ghassani in the 18th and 46th minutes.

However, at the end of the match, Luis Castro’s team responded with goals from Sultan Al Ghannam (88′), Talisca (90+5′) and Marcelo Brozovic (90+7′).

Apart from protesting with the AFC, Al Ghannam also criticized Al Nassr supporters who were considered inappropriate towards their team-mates. The bad treatment reportedly occurred when Al Nassr was close to losing to Shabab.

“What we’ve seen from Al Nasr fans towards some of the players is inappropriate,” said Al Ghannam.

“We ask the fans to support us as long as the players wear the club logo, because it encourages the players to try harder,” Al Ghannam added.
