The Mersal Charitable Foundation (specialized in providing medical services to patients from the simple and unable) shed light on those infected with the rare genetic disease “phenylketonuria” or “PKU”.
Heba Rashid, Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Mersal”, started a campaign to raise awareness of this rare genetic disease, through several posts, through her official account on the social networking site “Facebook”, in conjunction with the start of the new academic year 2020-2021.
Heba pointed out that neglecting to educate healthy children about the seriousness of this disease, its symptoms, and ways to deal with their colleagues with PKU, especially because they are forbidden from some foods that may be extremely dangerous to their lives.
Heba wrote on her official Facebook account during one of the awareness posts about the rare genetic disease: “Imagine a cheese sandwich that you give to your son, which, if he eats it, can cause mental disability, blindness, deafness, and skin eczema, and the body causes a body to breathe.”
She added, “A long and difficult road with each step is a mountain, and in complete silence, no one is aware of them and does not speak about them, nor does he know the suffering of PKU children and families.”
“PKU” is a metabolic disease that results from a mutation in a gene that causes a deficiency of an enzyme that causes phenylalanic substance to accumulate in the body, and its accumulation afflicts the body with serious injuries, the most important of which are brain injuries.
And she continued: “The child is diagnosed while he is making his birth certificate, and after that, special milk is disposed of until the age of five years. The patient’s long life tragedy prefers to provide a budget for food free of alien vinyl, and if he consumes any other food that will expose him to all the disabilities and injuries mentioned above.”
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of “Mersal” sends a humanitarian message to the citizens, saying: “Imagine that Egypt has families with two children, three patients with PKU and one child, which costs them an average of 1500-2000 pounds per month. Just buy a bag of flour free of instant vinyl, and make how many loaves for the child? Imagine that there are children living in it who eat starch only because the father is not able to buy him food? ”
“This abandoned file is a messenger, as usual,” she says. “She decided to break into it, and go to me without a back and no door banging on it, and she will provide poor PKU patients, especially children, including foods free of phenylalines.”
It is noteworthy that the Mersal Foundation is a non-profit charitable foundation, established in 2015, and works in the field of health, and seeks to provide all types of medical care with high quality to everyone who needs it, whether Egyptians or non-Egyptians.
