The Saudi shopping madness continues – and now also among women!
After the Saudi ProLiga lured numerous male top stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo (38/Al-Nassr), Karim Benzema (35/Al-Ittihad), Neymar (31/Al-Hilal) and Co. to the desert with a lot of money, the money is there apparently also arrived in women’s football.
With Ashleigh Plumptre (25) from Premier League club Leicester City, the Al-Ittihad women’s team is signing a well-known player from Europe for the first time.
From now on she will play for the club, where stars such as Benzema, N’Golo Kanté (32/came from Chelsea) and Fabinho (29/came from Liverpool FC) are under contract in the men’s division.

Plumptre was born in England and came through all of the Three Lions’ youth teams. With the U17 she took part in the 2014 and 2015 European Championships.
Since February 2022, she has been playing for the Nigerian women’s national team, with whom she took part in the Africa Cup of Nations last year (placed 4th) and the World Cup this year, where she played in each of the four games.
Saudi Arabia is still trying to polish up the country’s image. Experts believe that hosting a World Cup is the Saudi goal.
