Jakarta –
Al Ittihad defeat Al Quwa Al Jawiya 1-0 on matchday three Liga Champions Asia this season. The victory over the Iraqi representatives was achieved without their presence Karim Benzema who is absent.
Playing at King Abdullah Sports City, Monday (23/10), Al Ittihad appeared dominant in the first half. They held 65 percent possession of the ball and fired 11 shots, four of which were on target. However, none of them resulted in a goal.
Meanwhile Al Quwa also couldn’t take advantage of the few opportunities they had. They only had one shot on goal in the first half and it was managed by the home goalkeeper, Abdullah Al-Mayouf. The score was goalless and closed the first half.
In the second half, Al Ittihad regained control, but N’Golo Kante et al still found it difficult to dismantle Al Quwa’s defense. One of the golden opportunities came in the 83rd minute through Romarinho’s free kick, but the ball still hit the crossbar.
In the 88th minute, Haroune Camara also had a chance to score in the penalty box, but his left foot shot went wide beside the goal. The goal that Al Ittihad had been waiting for was only created in second half injury time.
Abderazak Hamdallah controlled Kante’s cross from the right side, then fired a shot into the left corner of the goal which Al Quwa goalkeeper Mohammed Hameed failed to anticipate. The 1-0 score lasted until the match was over.
This victory brought Al Ittihad to the top of Group C with six points from two matches. Meanwhile, Al Quwa dropped to third place with four points from three matches.
