The Dominican Al Horford assumed that the Boston Celtics no longer have a margin of error in the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors and urged his team to face this challenge with courage and attitude and without a safety net.
“Our backs are against the wall and we will have to see what we are made of”summed up the media after the fifth match, which was played tonight in San Francisco (USA) and was won by the Warriors (104-94) to get just one victory away from the ring (3-2).
“The challenge starts on Thursday at home,” he added.
The sixth game will be played on Thursday in Boston (USA). If necessary, the seventh would be held on Sunday back in San Francisco (USA).
“This is the moment where we look each other in the eye and we have to figure it out. We have a chance now. there is no tomorrow for us“, said.
With great problems to maintain the level throughout the 48 minutes, Boston sank this Monday with turnovers (18 against 7 for the Warriors), its poor free throw percentage (21 of 31) and its sad first and last quarter (27-16 and 29-20).
Horford contributed 9 points and 9 rebounds in a Celtics in which the most outstanding was Jayson Tatum with 27 points and 10 rebounds.
The Dominican considered that the Celtics allowed themselves to be carried away by what the Warriors proposed instead of setting the pace.
“Things they want us to do, like make defended shots from mid-range and probably play a little bit faster than we want to sometimes,” he said.
Horford said these are some of the reasons why the Celtics’ offense isn’t working as well as it needs to.
“Defensively we have to be what we are. Our defense is going to give us a chance. On offense, obviously we can’t lose the ball. That was important today. But we have to continue to be solid defensively,” he said.
Finally, Horford admitted that they feel “a little discouraged” for not having completed in the last quarter the comeback that they had achieved in the third, when they had a +5.
“I feel like we had chances, but we started playing a bit like we did at the beginning of the game. That was tough,” he concluded.
