The management of Al Hilal Club requested 5 non-Saudi referees to lead its first football team’s upcoming match against its guest and rival Al-Nasr on December 1, within the 15th round of the Saudi Roshan League, at King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh.
This is the first time, this season, that a local club has requested an entire non-Saudi crew consisting of an arena referee and his assistants, and a video technology referee and his assistant, according to what a private source revealed to Al-Riyadiya.
The same source explained that the main referees committee in the Saudi Football Federation seeks to attract elite referees from the European continent for the derby, specifically from Italy, despite the difficulty of the federations of the old continent agreeing to seek the help of its elite referees.
The committee has used European referees in 10 matches since the beginning of the current season, most notably Dutchman Danny Makele, the only referee among the elite “Class A” referees, who led the confrontation between Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahly in the ninth round.
Before the derby with a round, Al Hilal leads the standings with 35 points, and flies to Buraidah to face Al Hazm next Saturday, while Al Nassr comes second with a difference of 4 points, and receives Al Ukhdood next Friday for round 14.
