It was this company that took over the HDW shipyard in Kiel, which made KRI Nanggala-402 in the late 1970s to early 1980s.

“We really feel lost for the departure of our friends. As fellow submariners, we are aware that our duties are fraught with risks and dangers. No matter how much we train, and no matter how sophisticated the equipment is, accidents are inevitable. , ”Said VDU President Michael Setzer.
The Indonesian Ambassador to Germany Arif Havas Oegroseno also expressed his gratitude.
“On behalf of the Indonesian Government, the Indonesian National Army, the families of the victims, I would like to thank the high solidarity from the German Submarine Crew Association. This is the only ceremony to honor the fallen heroes, which is held outside Indonesia,” said Arif.
“This event shows a close relationship in the field of defense, cooperation between the Navy and people to people in the military context between Indonesia and Germany,” added Arif who was accompanied by Indonesian Consul General Hamburg Ardian Wicaksono and the Indonesian Defense Attaché to Germany, Colonel Rio Hendrawan.

The commander of the KRI Nanggala-402 graduated from the German Sesko
The Commander of Flotilla 1 of the German Navy, Admiral Christian Bock, also paid his last respects, accompanied by the captain of the warship Pfeiffer and 8 members.
Also present were the Commander of the Fuhrungsakademie Staff and Command School (Sesko), Major General Oliver Kohl, accompanied by 16 student officers from the Navy from 11 countries, namely Thailand, Brazil, Egypt, Peru, Algeria, Tunisia, Azerbaijan, China, South Korea and Tanzania.
Also present were three student officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force, who are currently undergoing the Staff and Command School in Hamburg. The commander of KRI Nanggala-402, the late Lieutenant Colonel (P) Heri Oktavian, graduated from the German Fuhrungsakademie in 2019.
Found after the ceremony, Juergen Weber, who once served as commander of the German Navy and is now the manager of the VDU said, the kinship between the submarine crew is very close.
“That bond is stronger than any military unit. We have an extraordinary sense of brotherhood. That’s why we are holding this tribute event,” said Weber.
The ceremony was held at the Moltenort Submarine Honor Monument.
This tower-shaped monument with an eagle statue at the top is located overlooking the bay of Kiel.
The monument was built to honor the crew of German submarines that fell in World War I and World War II.
