Cesar Azpilicueta bid farewell to the Chelsea fans in a video clip that the club posted on its social media accounts, as his transfer to Atletico Madrid approached.
Azpilicueta said in tears: “It is difficult to express what I feel, it was unbelievable, thanks to everyone, it would not have happened without the help of many people, what a journey, those moments that I will carry with me, they will remain forever.”
He added, “This is my home, and I hope to see everyone again one day. The love they have shown me is something I am proud of. I hope our relationship will last forever.”
He continued, “I am leaving Chelsea after 11 years. I did not imagine myself being in this position today, but I felt proud while defending the emblem. I have many wonderful memories here that I share with my colleagues and coaches.”
And he went on: “It is amazing to watch my first shots here at Stamford Bridge and introduce me to the fans, and then the last match on a journey during which I did not imagine being the captain of this club. I feel that I gave everything and listened a lot.”
And he continued: “When I arrived, the club was champions of the Champions League, and there are many legends in the locker rooms, and I knew that I needed to work to find a place. I still remember the first match, it was with the under-23 team, and it made me realize my need to work hard.”
And the Spanish player continued: “The most prominent moment in my career is the crowning of the Champions League title in Porto. We became European champions, and that was my first title as a captain. When I first arrived at the club and saw the cups, I wanted to participate in the club’s history.”
