The feature film, Inshallah Weld, directed by Amjad Al-Rasheed, witnessed its world premiere within the activities of the 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, and the full number was raised during its participation in the Critics’ Week competition. It is the first Jordanian feature film to participate in the history of the Cannes Festival.
The screening of the film was attended by director Amjad Al-Rasheed and a number of the heroes of the cast, Islam Al-Awadi and Muhammad Jizawi, and from the work team, producers Rola Nasser and Aseel Abu Ayyash, producer Youssef Abdel-Nabi, and editor Ahmed Hafez and Farah Jadaan, who did the makeup for the film, attended.
The film, whose official poster was recently revealed, will have six more screenings, as it will be shown on Thursday, May 18th at 5 pm and 10 pm, and will also be shown on Friday May 19 at 8:30 am and 8:30 pm in the presence of the director, followed by a discussion with the audience. While two other performances will be held for the public on Friday, May 19 at 3 pm and 9:30 pm.
God willing, a boy tells the story of Nawal, whose husband dies suddenly, so that she must save her daughter and her home from a society in which the scales turn if she has a male child and not a female one.
The film project won many awards, four awards from the Final Cut Venice Workshop at the Venice International Film Festival, and the Grand Prize in Post-Production (Atlas Post Production) at the International Film Festival in Marrakech. It also received a development grant from the Cairo Film Forum, and the Amman Market Grant. Filmmaking, Thelonski Festival Agora, and the Freiburg International Film Festival Prize, Switzerland.
It also received support from the Jordanian Royal Film Commission in two sessions, where it received production support and post-production support. The film was also supported by filming incentives in Jordan, where it benefited from the tax exemption and production incentive program, in addition to production support from the Jordan Film Support Fund and ART. and the Doha Film Institute. The film has previously received the support of the Red Sea Fund for production or post-production operations in its first session, support from the French National Center for Local Cinema and Motion Pictures (CNC).
The film is directed by Amjad Al-Rasheed, co-written by Delphine Ought and Rola Nasser, starring Haitham Omari, Youmna Marawan, Salwa Nakkara, Mohamed Gizawy, Islam Al-Awadi and Selina Rababa, and produced by The Imaginarium films (Rola Nasser and Aseel Abu Ayyash) with the participation of Beit Al-Shawareb (Youssef Abdel Nabi) and co-producers Alaa Karkouti and Maher Diab and Shahinaz El Akkad. MAD Solutions and Lagoonie Film Production handle the film’s distribution in the Arab world, while Pyramide International handles international sales.
The film also includes a team of the most important workers in the Arab and international industry, who are the director of photography Kanemi Onoyama (the Oscar movie Everything Everywhere All at Once), the editor Ahmed Hafez (the Moon knight series), the music of Jerry Lynn (the Oscar-nominated movie Theeb), and Farah Jadaan, who did makeup The film is in addition to her prominent participation in the movie Dune, and the international clothing designer Zeina Soufan, who participated in several international films, the most recent of which is John Wick: Chapter 4, and the sound engineer Nour Al-Halawani, one of his most prominent works is the movie Al-Hara, and he participated in the sound team in the movie Dégradé.
Inshallah Weld is the second collaboration between Amjad and MAD Solutions, as the company handled the distribution of his short film The Parrot with Darren J. Salam and won many international awards, including the Jury Prize at the Twin Cities Arab Film Festival in Minnesota and Malmo Arab Film Festival in Sweden, and had its world premiere at the Dubai International Film Festival 2016, and is currently showing on OSN.
Amjad Al-Rasheed is a Jordanian director who holds a master’s degree in cinematic arts with a focus on directing and editing. He began directing, writing and producing in 2005. In 2016, Amjad was selected in the “Arab Stars of Tomorrow” list of Screen Daily magazine among 5 emerging film talents from the Arab world. He was selected in 2007 to participate in the Berlinale Talent Forum at the Berlin International Film Festival, after many short films succeeded in being nominated and winning awards in international and Arab film festivals.
Rola Nasser is a Jordanian freelance producer, with experience in all aspects of production ranging from commercials, TV series, low-budget films and big-budget commercials. Rola started her career working on projects for the BBC and Discovery Networks. She worked with the Royal Film Commission Jordan for five years, and in 2011 she founded The Imaginarium Films, and her works were selected to participate in many prestigious festivals.
