Counselor Amr Tantawi, son of His Eminence the late Grand Imam Sheikh Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi, commented on the claim of a Christian woman named Sarah that she is the daughter of the former Sheikh of Al-Azhar.
Tantawi said in a statement to Masrawy on Tuesday: “We will take legal measures against this woman because of her allegations,” adding: “We do not know the reason for her claim that.”
Dr. Abbas Shoman, the former representative of Al-Azhar, a member of the Council of Senior Scholars, responded to a Christian girl’s claim that she was the daughter of His Eminence the late Grand Imam Dr. Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi.
Shoman said on his Facebook page on Monday: “Dafin al-Baqi, the late Grand Imam, Dr. Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi, only married one woman, has only one daughter, and has no connection to the liar who claims on websites that she is his daughter.”
He continued: “I met with Counselor Amr Tantawi, son of the late Grand Imam, and he told me that he would judicially pursue the liars who slandered his father.”
A woman named Sarah claimed on a YouTube channel that she is the daughter of the late Grand Imam, Dr. Muhammad Sayyid Tantawi. She claimed that he died as a Christian and was baptized in 2006, and that she had been a Christian since she was 18 years old and fled Egypt at the age of 24 years old, and her mother was also a Christian.
