Akwasi responds to tweets about Zwarte Piet: ‘Can’t remember’ | NOW

Akwasi has via Sunday Twitter responded to the fuss about a number of old tweets in which he said, among other things, that he wanted to “murder” Zwarte Piet. The 32-year-old rapper said he could not remember the messages.

“I distance myself from the tweets from the past two decades. I don’t recognize myself in what I’m saying,” Akwasi writes. “In fact, I can’t even remember the messages. Do you remember little texts from over twenty years ago? Neither do I.”

On Saturday, his spokesman still left to it AD know that the rapper was not responsible for the tweets. According to her, falsehoods were being told about him. “We regret that the media is spreading lies again,” she said.

In the messages from 2011 and 2012, Akwasi wrote, among other things: “Is someone going to shoot a Zwarte Piet or should I do it?”, “Zwarte Piet must die man, seriously” and “What do I provoke when I murdered?”. The messages have been deleted, but can still be found in the so-called cache.

The rapper was discredited earlier this year when he said during an anti-racism demonstration on Dam Square in Amsterdam that he wanted to “personally kick Black Pete in the face”. His management then reported that his words should be seen as a call to resistance and not a call to violence.
