The Turkish company Akıncılar signed a cooperation agreement with the Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense Industry of Azerbaijan. The press service of the company said that according to the protocol signed between the parties, a joint production enterprise and a laboratory will be created in the Transcaucasian republic, Anadolu news agency reported today, June 12.
Akıncılar currently manufactures body armor, ballistic helmets, uniforms and other military products in Izmir.
Products to be produced at the joint venture in Azerbaijan are planned to be delivered to third countries.
“Within three years, production in the fraternal republic will switch to completely domestic materials. For the first time, bulletproof defense products will be produced in Azerbaijan. At the innovation center, engineers from Akıncılar and the Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense Industry of Azerbaijan will jointly develop production,” — said the head of Akıncılar Ahmet Jan Uzuntepe.
Turkey is negotiating with Azerbaijan and Pakistan regarding the supply of Hürkus training aircraft to these countries. This was announced in an interview with the TGRT Haber television channel exactly a month ago, on May 12, by the head of the Defense Industry Directorate (SSB) under the Turkish presidential administration. Ismail Demir. Ankara prefers to cooperate in this issue with friendly and fraternal countries, he stressed.
Recall that Ankara provided Baku with comprehensive support during the 44-day war in Karabakh in the fall of 2020, including the transfer of militants from Syria to Azerbaijan, the deployment of its aviation in the Transcaucasian republic, and the supply of strike systems.
On June 15, 2021, Azerbaijan and Turkey signed the Shusha Declaration (at the place where the agreement was signed in the second largest city of Karabakh, Shushi), which, among other things, provides for cooperation between the two countries in the defense industry and mutual military assistance.
