On Friday, he presented Aker’s results for the first quarter, a release of figures which showed that values shrank in the first three months of the year.

In a letter to Aker shareholders, he highlights the potential opportunities in artificial intelligence, a topic that has sparked the interest of investors and companies.

This is how Kahoot will use artificial intelligence

The Aker boss says that the result of artificial intelligence in many contexts is that the machine takes over work tasks that humans have today.

– But history shows that when technology takes over jobs, the consequence is that the tasks are changed, but not removed.

Pointing to software

Eriksen singles out Aker’s software companies, and points to Cognite, which has developed its own data platform to collect and analyze data, and facilitates digitization in many industries.

– Applications such as artificial intelligence are neither more nor less intelligent than what the data quality indicates, he says.

Eriksen points to the company’s most important product; the data platform and software Cognite Data Fusion, which has been created precisely to make available, quality-assure and assemble data from industrial plants.

The software is used, among other things, in oil and gas, and the production and distribution of power, as well as in the process industry.

After the AI euphoria comes the bill

Eriksen says that Cognite is in dialogue with its partners such as Microsoft, Accenture, SLB (formerly Schlumberger) and Saudi Aramco about the technology.

– There is technology that needs to be built and that is not fully available today. Sitting around the table and being part of that development is educational, exciting and has great potential.

Eriksen also points to the Aker company Aize, which develops industrial software that can be used to streamline work processes in, among other things, the oil and gas industry.

– Artificial intelligence will almost certainly also be an important technology for streamlining work processes in the future.
