Akash Chopra questioned Mumbai Indians (MI) for batting Vishnu Vinod in front of Cameron Green after their loss against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The 63rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 between Krunal Pandya-led Lucknow Supergiants and five-time champions Mumbai Indians took place at the Ekana Sports City Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday. Lucknow defeated Mumbai by five runs in the match.
Krunal Pandya and Marcus Stoinis led Lucknow to score 177 runs in the first innings. Mumbai failed to capitalize on the good start given by Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma in the second innings. The death of Tim David also did not help Mumbai.
Reflecting on the final stages of Mumbai Indians’ chase in a video shared on his YouTube channel, Chopra praised Yash Thakur for bowling the 18th over brilliantly. However, he questioned the visitors’ batting order:
“Tim David batted very well and could have won the game for Mumbai. Yash Thakur bowled the 18th over brilliantly despite throwing a noball and conceding a free hit. He dismissed Vishnu Vinod. But why did Vishnu Vinod come to bat in front of Cameron Green?
While criticizing MI for not using Cameron Green effectively, the former India opener praised Mohsin Khan for bowling a brilliant last over:
“Did they pay so much for Green as a finisher? Naveen-ul-Haq bowled a very expensive over, conceding 19 runs. The game is over there. But Mohsin Khan comes in, they needed 11 runs at that time and he bowled the impossible.” Chopra said.
