As the strongest cold wave hit Texas in the central and southern states of the United States, the residents of this area were even hit by an electric bill bomb.

Texas is mild even in winter, but due to abnormal temperatures, sudden cold waves and massive snowfall caused power outages as well as shortages of drinking water and food. Some residents paid up to 20 million won for electricity.

According to NBC News on the 21st (local time), Ty Williams’ family in Arlington received an electricity bill stamped at $17,000 this month.

Their family’s usual electricity bill was 660 dollars (73 million won).

Williams, who received the bill for the electricity bill, appealed to a Texas local broadcaster, “Who can pay this electricity?”

Another resident of the area, Jose del Rio, paid $3,000 (3,130,000 won). Usually it was about 125 dollars (140,000 won).

Royce Pierce and his wife living in Dallas also cost $10,000 (11 million won) for electricity.

Fox News reported on the same day that a sudden cold wave was imposed on Texas residents with electricity bills ranging from as little as several million won to as many as 20 million won.

The reason why electricity bills soared is because the demand for electricity surged due to a record cold wave, and the price rose.

In particular, as the electricity supply shortages to the point of a massive power outage, the average price per megawatt hour (Mhw) of about 50 dollars (55,000 won) has soared to 9000 dollars (995 million won).

A resident of Texas, USA, wrote on Twitter on the 19th that he had been charged a total of $3,801 (4.2 million won), saying that it was his electricity bill from the 1st to 18th of this month. He said, “I paid only 1,200 dollars (1,200,000 won) for the last year.”

In this “electricity charge bomb,” Texas authorities launched an investigation. Texas Governor Greg Abbott said on the 20th, “We can’t get people who have suffered for days in the cold to be hit by electricity bills.”
