Ajax and West Ham United are close to an agreement on Mohammed Kudus, journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic reported on Wednesday evening. According to the Englishman, the Amsterdammers receive a fixed amount of 41.5 million euros for the 23-year-old Ghanaian. The transfer fee can still increase by 3 million euros through bonuses, while Ajax retains ten percent of the transfer rights. Kudus himself has already agreed with West Ham on a five-year contract, with an option for a sixth season. In the Johan Cruijff Arena, the left leg was still fixed until mid-2025, but he will not serve that contract.

Earlier, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Ajax had turned down an offer of 42 million euros. According to the Italian journalist, people in Amsterdam held on to the expectation that even more parties would register for Kudus. According to Romano, technical director Sven Mislintat would aim for an amount between 45 and 50 million euros. Ornstein’s reporting, who works for the usually reliable The Athletic, contains an agreement on a relatively lower amount. Kudus was ‘just’ on the plane to Bulgaria with Ajax on Wednesday, but the news of Ornstein makes his playing against Ludogorets on Thursday evening very doubtful.

In any case, Ajax will receive a higher transfer fee from Kudus’ departure than a few weeks ago, when the Dutch record champion agreed with Brighton & Hove Albion. Mislintat gave Kudus an ultimatum, requiring him to make ends meet with the Seagulls within 48 hours. However, a personal agreement was not forthcoming, after which Kudus played twice more for Ajax. In the home game against Heracles Almelo (4-1 win), Kudus managed to score, while he provided an assist on a visit to Excelsior (2-2) last Saturday. It seems that these were his last achievements in the shirt of Ajax.

Ajax brought Kudus to the Netherlands in July 2020 for about 9 million euros. At the time, the Ghanaian came over from FC Nordsjaelland, which trained him through the famous Right to Dream academy. Kudus has played 86 official matches for Ajax since his arrival, in which he scored 24 goals and 12 assists. In Amsterdam, the attacking midfielder annex winger was twice national champion and once cup winner. Now he seems to continue his career after a long transfer soap opera in the Premier League, where he reunites with Edson Álvarez.
