Ajax Women’s Coach Suzanne Bakker Prepares for Tough Champions League Battle Against Bayern Munich

Ajax Women’s coach Suzanne Bakker hopes to perform again with her team in the Champions League on Thursday. But she knows that it will not be an easy task when visiting the “extremely mature” Bayern Munich.

Bakker sees that German women have many qualities. “Bayern has a very good and dynamic team, with four good players up front and emerging backs,” says the Ajax coach. “Moreover, it is a very mature team, which knows well what is required in big matches.”

Ajax started the group stage in the Champions League with an extremely surprising 2-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain. Because a 3-0 defeat at AS Roma followed, the Amsterdam women are third in the group with three points. PSG and Bayern have four points.

“It was a big contrast between those two matches,” Bakker reflects. “In the first match everything went as we wanted and in the second we quickly fell behind and were constantly behind the times.”

“We will now have to keep the distances a little smaller and collapse a little more, but there will also be phases when we can show ourselves. We can play from the underdog position and we can win. We will do everything we can to do that.”

Bayern Munich-Ajax kicks off on Thursday at 6:45 PM. The match in Paris between Paris Saint-Germain and AS Roma starts at 9 p.m.
