Ajax has to do without Antony in the Champions League match against Liverpool on Wednesday. It is unclear why the attacker is not there.
Trainer Erik ten Hag left the reason for Antony’s absence in the middle at a press conference on Tuesday. When asked whether the Brazilian is infected with the corona virus, Ten Hag replied: “We never make any statements about that.”
Antony started the season strongly with three hits in five matches. Yet Ten Hag thinks that Ajax does not have to feel the lack of the wing tip. “We have a good and wide selection and can take care of it if players are not fit.”
Besides Antony, the young defender Jurriën Timber is also not available for the match against Liverpool.
Van Dijk is missing from Liverpool
Ten Hag is looking forward to the home game against the English superpower. “They are the best team in the world. Two years ago they won the Champions League and last year the Premier League, that says enough.”
Liverpool has had a difficult start this season. The team has the most passed defense in the Premier League with thirteen goals against. “It is clear that they are vulnerable,” said Ten Hag.
Virgil van Dijk is missing from Liverpool, who suffered a serious knee injury last weekend. Ajax-Liverpool starts on Wednesday at 9 p.m.
