After the match between Ajax and AEK Athens (3-1), Noa Vahle was seen walking into the players’ tunnel ‘swearing a bit’. The 28-year-old attacker was the man of the match with two goals, but also had reason to be dissatisfied with his own performance.
Akpom opened the score on behalf of Ajax in the fifth minute on Thursday evening and scored the last goal of the match ten minutes after the break. In the last half hour he had several opportunities to complete his hat trick, but he was no longer sharp in finishing.

He was disappointed about that too. “Akpom just walked into the players’ tunnel here, swearing a bit. Do you like that too?” Vahle asks afterwards on behalf of Veronica to Van ‘t Schip. “Yes, of course. He is a striker. He went at the goalkeeper three times alone and perhaps should have put the ball wide once. He will take that with him,” says the Ajax coach.
Akpom himself also spoke to Vahle afterwards. “I could have gone home with the ball (which he would have received if he had scored a hat-trick, ed.). Although I am happy with the victory, I am frustrated with the last chances. I practice there every day during training on. Who knows the next game.”
