Ajax is closely monitoring Amario Cozier-Duberry’s situation at Arsenal, The Evening Standard reported on Tuesday. The eighteen-year-old winger will run out of contract at the Emirates Stadium next summer. Arsenal still hope to keep the born Londoner, but there are several captors on the coast for his services.
In addition to Ajax, Anderlecht, Borussia Dortmund and Newcastle United are also said to be interested in Cozier-Duberry, who is already worth 2 million euros according to Transfermarkt. The England youth international has not yet played an official match in Arsenal’s main squad, but did travel to the United States with the Gunners for the training camp last summer.
Cozier-Duberry has been playing in Arsenal’s youth academy since 2010 and is known as a great talent. The left-footed right winger has already been compared by youth coach Jack Wilshere to Bukayo Saka, who is making waves on behalf of Arsenal in the Premier League. Cozier-Duberry can also play as an attacking midfielder and left winger.
Arsenal still sees a future in Cozier-Duberry, but is unable to extend his contract. It is therefore increasingly looking like the young Englishman will continue his career elsewhere. The London newspaper does not report how concrete Ajax currently is. It is also not clear whether the Amsterdam team still wants to strike this transfer period.
This season, Cozier-Duberry mainly plays his matches in the Premier League 2. In eight matches for the promising team, the wing flash was good for five goals and two assists. Cozier-Duberry also played four games for Arsenal in the Youth League, in which he scored two goals.
At the beginning of November, a Champions League debut beckoned for Cozier-Duberry, who was on the bench at Arsenal during the home game against Sevilla (2-0 win). Manager Mikel Arteta ultimately did not bring in the teenager.
At Arsenal, the competition is fierce up front on the flanks. In the right wing position, Cozier-Duberry has to tolerate several players in front of him. Saka, Reiss Nelson and Marquinhos all seem to have an advantage. Arsenal has Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard under contract for the left flank.
