Ajax dissolved Lisandro Magallán’s erroneous signing contract on Thursday. The defender, bought by Boca Juniors for around 9 million euros in January 2019, remained in Amsterdam until the end of the season.
The 29-year-old Magallán has failed to convince for a single moment since his arrival. The Argentine played just nine competitive games in four years for Ajax, who leased him three times to another club.
In the 2019/2020 season, Magallán was loaned to Deportivo Alavés. This was followed by temporary transfers to the Italian Crotone (2020/2021) and Anderlecht (2021/2022). At Anderlecht, the defender regularly had a starting place.
Magallán returned to Ajax last summer and a new lease period was not expected. Manager Alfred Schreuder used him in two Eredivisie games, but now he can still look for a new club.
Magallán, who won the national title, KNVB Cup and Johan Cruijff Scale with Ajax in 2019, was also missing from selection for a training camp in Marbella late last year. The current Eredivisie number three will resume competition on Sunday with a trip to NEC.
Daley Blind’s contract was terminated earlier this winter. The defender, who had been sidelined, is about to sign a contract with Bayern Munich. Ajax are also close to the arrival of a new player: goalkeeper Gerónimo Rulli will almost certainly be bought by Villarreal.
