Ajax pays millions after poor care

After the incident, the midfielder suffered permanent brain damage and now the club agrees to pay just over 83 million Swedish kronor to Nouri’s family for the substandard care he received on the pitch.

According to an investigation, the medical staff spent too much time releasing Nouri’s airways and thus developed the defibrillator too late.

Nouris family sued the club and now a settlement has been reached.

– It is good that we have reached an agreement, so we can end this, says Ajax CEO, Edwin van der Sar according to the BBC.

Ajax has paid for Nouri’s healthcare costs after the incident, and intends to continue to do so in the future.

It has also retired Nouri’s number, 34, and annually awards the Abdelhak Nouri Prize to the best player in the club’s academy.
