Not Ajax, but Liverpool is the opponent of International in the eighth final of the Champions League. Stefan de Vrij in Denzel Dumfries would have liked to meet the only Dutch participant.
Inter was linked to Ajax, but due to a mistake by UEFA, the entire draw had to be restarted. Liverpool then came out of the box. Dumfries does not want to call it a setback. “Why? If you want to achieve something in the Champions League, you have to be able to beat everyone, including Liverpool,” he said in an interview with the General Newspaper. “For Dutch players it is nice to meet Ajax, but no more than that.”
“I also liked that we had drawn against Ajax”, De Vrij adds. The defender saw things go wrong during the much-discussed Champions League draw. “I was watching and saw Villarreal against Manchester United. I immediately thought: something is going wrong (the Spanish and English club were group mates, ed.). Now it has become Liverpool. A very strong team, but we will just get there prepare well.”
