Andy van der Meijde does not have a good word to say about the technical policy at Ajax. According to the seventeen-time Oranje-international, the team from Amsterdam had better say goodbye to Calvin Bassey immediately.
Wim Kieft and Dick Advocaat agree at Veronica Offside that Bassey played an unfortunate Classic (2-3). The center defender had to take care of the build-up against Feyenoord. “You have to have people to whom you can lose the ball. He was not achieved because of his footballing qualities”, Advocaat is nuanced. Van der Meijde goes in with a straight leg. “He just plays the first three balls to a Feyenoord player.”
“Then you have to switch again. That takes a lot of strength,” he grumbles. “It’s just not possible at Ajax. Maybe he’s a nice guy, but you’re not going to score points with these kinds of players. Do you know what to do? You have to give him away,” said Van der Meijde, who knows that Bassey will play for 23 million euros has been purchased. “Yes, gone. This is not possible at Ajax. It’s a shame.”
Milos Malenovic, the agent of Dusan Tadic and Alfred Schreuder, among others, played a role in Bassey’s transfer, according to Van der Meijde. Ajax would not have made a scouting report and the defender is said to have been bought on the basis of images. “Amateurish that Ajax has handed everything over. It’s just scandalous”, concludes Van der Meijde.
