“Ajax has brought in a great trainer in Maurice Steijn. And no, I am absolutely not saying this because I am playing now and he gives me the confidence. Because when I was on the bench at the beginning of the season, I had exactly the same opinion,” says Gorter Football International. “Steijn is very clear in what he wants and conveys this to us together with the rest of the staff.”

Despite his praise, Gorter had a verbal altercation with Steijn during the preparation. “Seriously, that’s what I really appreciate about this trainer. He doesn’t beat around the bush, he just tells it how it is. And we have indeed collided a few times during training. When the ball rolls during a game, I’m just a fanatic, and so is he. When I talk to the trainer after training, we also understand each other. That just creates a bond. We can be fierce with each other, but I appreciate it greatly.”

Gorter feels good under Steijn, he also emphasizes The Telegraph. “With Steijn I feel the confidence that I lacked with Schreuder. He has clearly indicated that he did not just choose me and will not let me down anytime soon. But of course I have to perform. I really feel like Ajax’s first goalkeeper, Certainly.”
